30 ceramic items sold through Indigo recalled due to mould contamination
An array of cute, whimsical, and fashionable ceramic items sold through Indigo have been recalled due to mould contamination, according to Health Canada.
First published on Tuesday, Jan. 31, then updated on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, the consumer product recall issued by Health Canada now includes a total of 30 ceramic items, including mugs, ornaments, and kitchenware/home décor items. Among those items are small ceramic mug ornaments with gold lettering featuring terms like ‘Best Grandpa’ and ‘Best Sister,’ which were manufactured in red, white, and green to be sold as Christmas ornaments.
“Immediately stop using the mugs and return the products to an Indigo store for a full refund,” Health Canada says in the recall, explaining that the items “may have been subject to humid conditions.”
“As a result, mould may be present under the glazed surface of the products. Mould ingestion may pose a risk of gastrointestinal symptoms and infections in consumers with compromised immune systems,” the recall says, noting that, as of January 30, 2023, Indigo has received no reports of incidents or injuries related to these products in Canada.
A total of 21,890 units of the affected products were sold nationally, Indigo reported. The products, manufactured in China and sold with Indigo branding by Indigo, were sold in Canada from August to December 2022.
According to Health Canada, those with affected products wanting more information can contact Indigo by telephone toll-free at 1-833-463-4461 from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. (EST), and Saturday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. (EST).
